Tertiary Institutions In the Country Can Only Accommodate 800,000 - Prof. Dibu

The Registrar and Chief Executive of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor ‘Dibu Ojerinde has indicated that the carrying capacity of all tertiary institutions in the country is currently less than 800,000.

This simply implies that over 500,000 candidates out of the 1.4 million candidates who sat for the 2015 UTME will likely not gain admission this year.

According to him this informed the Boards decision to redistribute candidates in order to give them a better chance of gaining admission but with the agitations coming from different quarters it was obvious that people do not want problem solved.

FUTO Rusticates 500 Students

About 500 students of the Federal University of Technology Owerri have been rusticated by the school management due to their involvement in offences against the rules and regulations of the school.

This was disclosed by the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Monitoring Unit FUTO ACTU Chairman, Professor N. Okeudo.
According to him, the school has shown zero tolerance for corrupt practices by rusticating the students, banning of sale of handouts and punishing lecturers indicted for intimate harassment of students.

In his words, “ACTU had been involved in provision of a Complaint Box for the school community and publication of anti-corruption articles to sensitise school community against corruption.

We have shown zero tolerance for corruption by working closely with the school management to achieve it. Our actions had led to the rustication of over 500 students for various offences.

We are working against illegal sales of text books and handouts. We are investigating cases of plagiarism and bribery amongst staff which has led to a female staff absconding.”

Mr. Ishaku, in his responses to the heads of ACTU of the two institutions, maintained that the visit was prompted by the need to have a national coverage of activities of all ministries, department and agencies by the Commission.

Were You Disqualified, But Now Eligible For Your School's Post-UTME? - Share Here

In light of the recent reversal of the new JAMB Admission policy which had disqualified some students from registering for the post-UTME screening of their First choice institutions, we expect the affected institutions to have begun updating their eligibility list and allowing all students who have chosen them and scored the minimum cut off mark to register for the post-UTME screening.

This thread is for candidates who were initially disqualified from participating in their choice school post-UTME due to the new JAMB policy but now have been given access to the portal for Post-UTME registration indicating that they are now eligible.

We would like you to comment here as a way of clearing the doubts of most candidates as regarding the authenticity and credibility of the reversal of this new policy.

And also as a way of giving hope to others who are yet to find their names on the post-UTME eligibility list of their first choice institutions.

Please start commenting now by stating your school, course and score in the comment box below.
