Medical Students To Spend 11 Years In Medical School

The National Universities Commission has disclosed that medical students will henceforth spend a minimum of 10 to 11 years in school.

This was made known by the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prof. Julius Okojie in a lecture delivered at the maiden matriculation and inauguration of the University of Medical Science, Ondo, Ondo State.

Prof. Julius Okojie who was represented by the Deputy Executive Secretary of the commission, Prof. Chiedu Mafiana, in a lectuyre titled ‘Development of Medical Education : Prospects and Challenges‘, stated that this development was imperative in order to enable the students mature psychologically for the profession.

According to him, the 2015 document for the training of medical students made provision for students to spend the first four years in studying basic sciences in university after which they would proceed to the medical school to spend another seven years.

JAMB Appeals To Candidates/Stake Holders To Remain Calm And Understanding

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in a statement has appealed to the public to remain calm and understanding following the planned protest by individuals under the aegis of education consultants.

The statement made available by the JAMB’s public relations officer, Dr Fabian Benjamin asked the aggrieved candidates to channel their complaints to the public complaints unit of the board or visit JAMB offices nationwide instead of allowing themselves to be used in pursuit of selfish interests.

Part of the statement reads, “We are not perfect as an organization but we are working hard to ensure that Nigerian education is better than it is. We have taken the risk to do the unthinkable so as to change the paradigm.

“We will continue to call on all Nigerians to give us the benefit of the doubt and with their collective support we will give them one of the best CBTs globally."

The board added that the worst CBT is far better than the best paper and pencil test (PPT), where candidates pouring acid on invigilators, bolting with questions papers and engaging in all forms of gross examination malpractices.

The Matriculation Fee for collection of gowns is as follows:
ND Gown Fee: 2000
HND Gown Fee: 2500
Fine for late submission: 1000 per day

Please note that you are to proceed to your various Schools with the original copy of your reciept of payment in order to collect your Matriculation gown which must be submitted on or before Thursday 24th March, 2016

JAMB Candidates Asked To Pay Money At Exam Venue

8th March, 2016 was my UTME date. Although I am already a student of Abia State University Uturu. I was given biochemistry to study instead of my dream course medicine and surgery which I applied for.

So I decided to take JAMB this year and change to medicine and surgery. This would be my 3rd time of writing UTME. In 2014 I scored 218, 2015 I scored 219 in UTME. Like always, I had no intention of involving in any form of malpractice the examination.

But to my greatest surprise when I got to my exam venue at "jet age private school Obingwa" in Aba Abia state, I was told to pay 1000 Naira before I could be allowed through the gate. I refused and pleaded wit them to let me in, but they refused and wasted my 1hr before they allowed me because I didn't pay them the gate fee.

Please my question is this? Is it that jamb don't give money to centers for maintenance or what? After suffering and frustrating me, I ended up scoring 210 in UTME I prepared very well to smash.

I think Nigeria is now highly corrupt from the root level. Inside the UTME hall, a student will thumb print and a full grown teacher will enter and sit for him/her inside exam hall.

After all said and done, JAMB will claim malpractice free when am sure that this CBT newly introduced exam pattern is 100% malpractice guaranteed... please jamb should look into this matter and find a solution to this....

1. He forgets what you tell him.
Have you shared your favourite colour or your favourite song with him just to find out that he forgot it later? You deserve attention and you deserves a boyfriend who remembers things that you tell him. If he forgets these little things, do you really think he will remember the major things?

2. His friends don’t know that you exist.
He should be proud of having you and he doesn’t have to keep it a secret. When you’re madly in love with someone, you at least mention them in front of your friends. However, if his friends don’t know that you exist or you’ve never met them, you really need to ask him if he is serious or not.

3. You always make the first move.
From texting him in the morning to making plans for going out, if you have to do everything then ask yourself if it’s really worth it. Shy people find it hard to initiate things but even they make the move at times. If you are supposed to do everything, and they just do it when they want, don’t compromise.

4. You fight all the time.
A little amount of arguments is health for relationships but if you guys cannot sit together without fighting then you need to assess things. There should be some common ground between you guys. Fighting all the time will not take you anywhere.

5. You have started finding other people attractive.
Do you feel the need to check out other people and then end up finding them more attractive? Do you feel no guilt in doing so? If this is happening to you then stop and ask yourself if you really need to stay with the person you are with. You’re not even feeling belonged then what is the point of dragging it.

6. His thoughts don’t come in your head.
You don’t have to be obsessive and I am definitely not preaching that but did you just spend your day without even thinking of him once? Did you think for a minute about what he must be up to right now? No? Then sweety, what are you doing wasting your time and telling people that you’re committed?

5. The other person doesn’t respect you.
Does he look for instances to ridicule you or make fun of you? Are you the laughing stock when you guys sit together with your friends or other couples? If he doesn’t how to respect you, what makes you think that he will respect you at some point? Respect is a point that shouldn’t be compromised upon. NEVER.

6. The other person is not 1% possessive.
He or she do not just care about you. They don’t get bothered if someone flirts with you openly or when someone checks you out in public, then do they even feel like you’re theirs? I am sorry but stop wasting your time and get out now.

Ajayi Crowther University Establishes Distance Learning Centre, Part Time Studies

Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo has established a Distance Learning Centre (DLC) and also a Centre for Part-time Studies. The need for the creation of the DLC was predicated on the imperative of expanding the frontiers of the university through provision of formal education to numerous people who desire academic advancement but are inhibited because of constraint of time.

In the same vein, the creation of Centre for Part-time Studies has been premised on the importance of broadening the horizon of the university by means of running sandwich and conversion programmes. Consequently, while Dr. O. F. Alabi, of the Department of Communication and Media Studies, has been appointed as the Acting Director of the DLC, Dr. Omosolape Owoseni of the Department of Business Administration has been appointed as the Acting Director of the Centre for Part-time Studies. The Centres have taken-off immediately.

The University Management has also re-introduced Pre-Degree Programme and has also restructured the existing Foundation Year Programme. To this end, a Centre for Pre-Degree and Foundation Programme has been established. Consequently, Dr. (Mrs.) E. JAMB Expresses Regret Over Technical Issues Ecountered In Some Exam Centres

The Coordinator of the National Headquarters Annex, Lagos of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Beatrice Okorie, has expressed regret over the technical issues encounter in some centres in the ongoing UTME.

According to her, most of the technical issues encountered were unforeseen circumstances and could happen anywhere and to anyone.

“We, indeed, regret the entire challenges because we mean well for the Nigerian-child. “We, however, must realize that these facilities are machines and can breakdown without warning. “Computers and generators are machines, just like cars.

“You can service your car today and take it out but on the way it can develop another fault. “We actually went round for accreditation and a routine check of the various centres and their facilities before accreditation for the examination, which commenced on February 27.”

She further stated that no candidate participating in the ongoing UTME would suffer any penalties as a result of such issues and mentioned that the board has rectified the issues in the affected centres.

She added that there will be an improvement in the conduct of the Computer Based Test by 2017.
